OpenAI launches Operator: an AI that controls your computer

On January 23, 2025, OpenAI launched Operator, a research preview of an AI agent that controls a web browser on its own to execute tasks.

An agent that clicks and types

Operator runs on the Computer-Using Agent (CUA) model, which combines the vision of GPT-4o with reasoning. It can fill out forms, place orders, and make plans.

First for Pro users

The feature launched in the US for ChatGPT Pro subscribers and was a clear signal that 2025 would be the year of AI agents.
