Google introduces Gemini 2.0 for the 'agentic era'

On December 11, 2024, Google introduced Gemini 2.0, built for what Google called the 'agentic era'. Gemini 2.0 Flash became immediately available.

Natively multimodal

Gemini 2.0 could generate images and audio on its own and use tools such as Google Search and code execution.

On the road to agents

Google showcased prototypes like Project Astra and Project Mariner — assistants that autonomously execute tasks — as the foundation for the next generation.
